Short Overview

Generally, I try to process as few personal data as possible and to avoid cookies as far as possible. Consequently, this website does not integrate any external analytics tools, social media plugins, anti-spam plug-ins or avatar services.

Personal data will be processed when you visit this website. Which data depends on how you interact with the website. In any case, the data will be processed on the systems of the web hosting provider Hetzner Online GmbH.

Apart from this, no other party will process or receive any information on you.

If you do not comment on articles on this site, they only data about you that will be processed are data technically necessary to provide the website. Basically, this refers to your IP address and your „user agent string“ (some basic information about the browser and operating system you use). The web server keeps log files, but your IP address is stored in anonymized form only.

If you add a comment, additional, personal data will be stored. Obviously, this includes the content of your comment. You also need to provide some name and email address when you add a comment and you have the opportunity to indicate your personal website. Your name and your comment will be displayed on the website for all visitors to see. Additionally, your IP address and email address will be logged internally to allow some form of identification in case your comment violates the law.

Adding comments is also the only situation in which a cookie might be stored on your device and only if you wish so. Only if you actively agree to a cookie being stored by activating the respective check box when writing your comment will a cookie actually be stored on your device. The cookie will only be used for making commenting more convenient for you. To do so, the next time you comment, it will be used to automatically fill in the name, email address and url that you provided. You can always delete the cookie. The cookie will not be used for any purpose beyond automatically filling in your information the next time you post a comment.

Generally, I try to process as few personal data as possible and to avoid cookies as far as possible. Personal data will only be processed where it is necessary to provide the website or when you actively decide to provide personal data, e.g., when posting comments to the website. This website does not integrate any external analytics tools, social media plugins, anti-spam plug-ins or avatar services.

Processing for service provision and logging

What data is collected

When you visit the website, our systems automatically processes some information about your device and browser. The following data is processed:

  • Protocol version, HTTP Method, Referrer, User-Agent-String (inlcudes name and version of your browser and operating system)
  • Your IP address
  • Time and date of your access
  • The requested address
  • Names of requested files and amount of data transferred
  • HTTP status codes

These data will also be stored in our logs. However, your IP address will only be stored in anonymized form and none of the abovementioned data will be stored together with other information about you. IP addresses are anonymized by replacing the last part of the address with a randomly chosen value.

Usage of that data and retention period

The above-listed data is used in order to optimally provide the website. Logs are kept in order to support optimizing and securing the website. Log files are deleted automatically after seven days.

Legal basis

Legal basis for the above-described processing of personal data is Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR (“legitimate interest”). Processing the data is necessary in order to provide the website. Storing the above-described information in log files helps securing and optimizing the website. All data stored in the log files are anonymized and do not constitute personal data as defined in Art. 4 GDPR.

Provisioning, securing and optimizing of the website are the legitimate interests regarding the processing of personal data.

What data is collected

When you send me an email, your email address, the content of your email, and the time of sending the mail are processed.

Usage of that data and retention period

The data you transmit are only used for processing your inquiry and will not be shared with third parties. Any mail you send to me and the associated personal data will be deleted once processing of your inquiry has been completed.

Legal basis

Legal basis for processing your data when you send me an email is Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR („legitimate interest“). Processing your inquiry is the legitimate interest for processing your personal data when you send me an email.

Data processed when you post comments on the website

What data is collected

When you add a comment to the website, you have to provide the following information:

  • a name
  • an email address
  • the content of your comment

Further, your IP address at the time of commenting will be stored.

You can also provide an address of a website. Further, you can optionally save information you provided (name, email address, website) in a cookie. Further information regarding this can be found below.

Usage of that data and retention period

Your name and your comment will be displayed indefinitely on the website for all visitors to see.

Your email address and IP address are not visible to other visitors of the website but will be stored in log files to allow some form of identification in case your comment violates the law. This data will be stored indefinitely. Comments will be reviewed before publication. To enable this, an email containing your IP and the data you provided will be sent to admin@the-privacy-blog.eu. This email will be deleted at latest 14 days after your comment has been approved or rejected.

Legal basis

Legal basis for the above-described processing of personal data is Art. 6(1) lit. a GDPR (“informed consent”). You can withdraw your consent anytime by contacting admin@the-privacy-blog.eu

Your withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before the withdrawal.

Apart from this, no other party will receive any information on you, as long as there is not legal obligation to transmit the information.
